The Mysterious Sasquatch
I was raised in Grants Pass, in Southern Oregon & heard many Stories about the Sasquatch. The Indians had Legends about them. Although most Whitemen thought they were just Faery Tales & Giant Hairy People who could Appear & Disappear at Will didn't Really Exist. hahahaha Mostly the local Indians just said "Stay away from the Big Hairy People. If you see one, Run!"
My Step-Dad told me this: Back in about 1938 or 40 his brother Orval went into partnership with a friend, Buck, who was a Brakeman for the Union Pacific Railroad. They opened up a little cafe in Rogue River, Oregon. One day a young fellow came in looking frazzled & shaken. At first he wouldn't talk about what was wrong, but finally he told them that he'd gone deer hunting 3 hills North of the head of a certain creek. (I forget the creeks name but it runs through the Oregon Vortex -- where gravity, light & radio waves are bent; called The House of Mystery at Gold Hill) He'd been just about to shoot a deer when this Great Big Hairy Monster grabbed the rifle out of his hands and snapped it like a twig, as it roared the most gawd-awful caterwauling, worse than a couple of Tom-Cougars in a cat fight!!! The kid swore that the Creature was 8 or 9 feet tall, hairy all over like a bear, but it wasn't a bear, because it had a human face!!!
Of course, everyone laughed, just like they said they wouldn't. Buck, who was an excellent woodsman said that he was going to settle this once & for all. If there was anything as a Sasquatch, he would bag one & bring it back. So, the next week he packed into the hills. He was gone for about 3 weeks & when he came home it was without any of his equipment or rifle. He was jumpy and spooked for months afterward, but Buck went to his grave without ever telling a soul about what happened to him out there........
