Star Trek - The Next GenerationThrough the Barzan Wormhole
~ Faces from the Past ~After the Enterprise-E was destroyed and the Voyager disappeared in the Bad Lands, the next two ships off the assembly docks were christened Enterprise-F and Voyager-B. The Enterprise crew was still intact and was assigned to the new ship.
The two ships left space dock together and headed out toward Orion's Belt where they would part company. When they reached the Belt, Voyager picked up Lt.Jr.Gr. Bonnie O'Ryan from her home world. Then before parting the two crews got together on the Voyager for a "Good Journeys Party". The party was winding down and Captain Picard, Commander Riker, Beverly Crusher, Deanna Troi, Jordi LaForge, accompanied by Captain Gwendale, First Officer Commander Maurizzia, Chief Medical Officer Commander Alzina Jaros, Counselor Lt.Com. Laryssa Rhyz, Science Officers Lieutenant Commander Djarmyd, and Phyllisha Montague, were beaming back to the Enterprise.
Just as transport began from the Voyager, the Barzan Wormhole appeared, sucking in both ships. The Enterprise was not able to get a transporter lock on them until after they were deposited at the far end of the wormhole.
They hurried to the bridge. Deta reported that the wormhole had jumped away as soon as the ships had come out. Capt. Picard called Yellow Alert. The Voyager crew returned to their own ship.
It was soon discovered that everyone who was in transport through the wormhole "phased" once in a while. There was no pattern in the timing of the phasing, nor in the length of time a person was phased. Although, it seemed that going through the transporter twice seemed to make the phasing worse for the Voyager officers. The three Betazoids, Deanna Troi, Alzina Jaros, Laryssa Rhyz had to be sedated.
Jordi worked on reversing the condition in himself and the ten others. Beverly Crusher helped as much as she could. Jordi and Beverly found that phasing seemed to be linked to the emotional state and stress level of the individual. Keeping one's emotions under control seemed to help up to a point, then the stress of "stuffing" it all caused phasing.
Deta announced that they had landed in the far reaches of the Beta Quadrant. "It will take twenty-eight years, seven months, twenty-three days at sustained warp nine-point-five.
"What? No hours and minutes?" Riker teased.
Deta raised an eyebrow at him. "We both know you consider that superfluous, sir."
"We cannot sustain warp-anything for months on end without stopping to recharge," Capt. Gwendale said, who had been listening on the linked view screens. "Even with both ships being powered by the new and improved engines, with the matter/anti-matter being augmented by the new gravity/anti-gravity engines and photon sails, we still cannot sustain warp nine for years on end."
"True," Capt. Picard concurred. "But, I see no sense in setting here. I suggest we get underway. We can map this sector as we travel."
"Agreed. Let's go."
Faces from the PastEncounter with the Zeta
After several months travel on a zig-zag course, to explore nearby solar systems, their sensors picked up an asteroid on an intercept course with them. Soon they realized that it was a ship at least a thousand kilometers in diameter! The spherical ship was bigger than a hundred Borg ships put together and traveling at nine-point-nine-five.
Long before they drew close, Voyager's tactical officer, Lt. Skylark, one of Voyager's token males, said, "Captain, we are being haled."
Both Captains said, "On screen."
The view screen blinked, shrinking the other ship's bridge view to the upper left hand corner. The rest of the screen filled with the face of the alien.
"There's a face out of our past!" murmured Riker.
"Greetings. We are Zeta. We come in peace."
Voyager's pilot, Lt.Jr.Gr. Bonnie O'Ryan, from Orion, who's race is also telepathic, nodded; affirming that, indeed, their intentions were peaceful.
"You are lost and a long way from home by accident?"
"Yes," replied Capt. Picard, and then he phased.
"We will guide you to the Border, so you may return to your home Quadrant. But, first, you are sick. We have that which will restore you to health. If you wish to come aboard, we will guide you to our healing room."
"Yes, I for one would greatly appreciate tha....." Capt. Gwendale answered and she also phased.

.Everyone who was phasing or otherwise ill shuttled over to the Zeta Mothership. The Zetas showed their guests into a huge auditorium with a mountain of green pulsing stone in the middle. A light from within the mountain glowed and faded.
"Hug the stone and you will be healed."
They inched forward, feeling foolish about hugging a glowing rock. When Beverly Crusher leaned against the stone, she felt a strange tingling sensation surge through her body. At first she phased and fell into the stone. Quickly, she willed herself to move away from the pulsing green stone, for fear that she would materialize inside it and be killed. Moving away from the stone was the most difficult thing she had ever had to do in her life. It took all her will power to force herself away from the stone. The mountain of stone seemed to magnetize her to it. It called to her, like a lover she longed for. How could a huge green rock have that kind of power over her?
Slowly Beverly leaned back against the rock. Every time the glowing brightened she phased and merged with the stone. Beverly struggled with her fears of materializing inside the stone and being killed, but each time, when the glow faded she rematerialize outside the stone where she had started from. Beverly surrendered to the almost erotic process.
After what seemed an eternity, yet, only moments, she noticed that she was no longer merging with the stone when it glowed. She still felt the flow of unconditional love and joyful ecstasy as she phased in time with the glowing pulses of the stone. Eventually, she realized that she was no longer phasing, but she couldn't bring herself to leave the stone. Whenever she thought about moving away a wave of grief swept over her, more awful than when Jack had been killed. Finally the grief overcame her and she sank to the floor, sobbing.
Someone handed her some tissues, sat down beside her, held her and rocked her. When she had exhausted her tears she looked up to find one of the hybrid Zetas holding her.

.When the phasing started it seemed to enhance the Betazoid senses of telepathy and empathy. The three Betazoid women were bombarded with every thought and emotion from every being on both ships. Their Betazoid senses were inundated and they had to be sedated.
When the Zetas, who had carried them to the mountain of pulsing rock, placed the three women against the Muldivite, they immediately phased into it. But, being sedated, they didn't fight it as Beverly and the others did.
Deanna first noticed the fading of the voices, then a prevailing feeling of peaceful harmony and total acceptance permeated every cell in her body, bringing complete healing of both mind and body. She relaxed and slipped down to lie beside the stone, feeling and knowing each being on the three ships intimately. The totality of such knowing was nearly unfathomable, yet, did not overwhelm her now, as it had before. Now, she was able to focus on one being at a time. As she moved her mind from mind to mind, exploring this new gift, she was surprised to find an unfamiliar presence, which she traced to the arboretums as the plant life. She was surprised to find a sentient consciousness, and intelligent awareness of self, except self was a whole species and not an individual. Deanna's heart swelled to
overflowing with love. Such intimate knowing and understanding inspired compassion instead of judgment for her fellow beings.* * ** *** **** ***** **** *** ** * *
.From the minute Jordi walked into the auditorium, he felt heat behind his eyes and temples. Then the pain connected with his visor intensified until he lost consciousness.
When he awoke, the first thing he saw was his visor laying next to him with the implants still attached. His hands flew to his temples to feel them healed perfectly. Drawing his hands away, he examined them for the first time with normal vision. Then he realized that his visor vision was mixed with normal human eye vision. Just by concentrating, he could focus on seeing different bandwidths of light. To his astonishment, he realized that now he could even see the x-ray frequencies as well, something he hadn't been able to do with his visor. And the pain was gone! No more visor, no more pain, and he could perceive a broader bandwidth of light rays than ever before.
Jordi was overjoyed!

.The Zeta led them past several star systems, taking several weeks at warp eight. At last the Zeta Commander haled them, "We are nearing the Border. At least, that is what we call it. You may think of it more like a Window or Door through Space and Time," the Zeta explained. "It is a small portion of space where Space and Time can be folded. Unlike a wormhole, which takes you someplace, you
determined your own destination by your thoughts."Everyone needs to meditate on peaceful, happy thoughts and your destination. You will need to increase your speed to warp ten-point-one to pass through the Border."
"But, our top speed is warp nine-point-eight." Capt.
Gwendale interrupted. The Zeta Commander conferred with the Science Officer, then replied, "If the two of you run ahead at warp nine-point-eight, we will overtake you at warp ten-point-one precisely at the Border. You can ride our wake through. You have one hour's distance to prepare. We will take the destination picture from your minds."
So, everyone prepared themselves, for peaceful thoughts and meditation, by thinking of the Good Journeys Party and their coordinates in the Orion Belt.
The view screen ahead shown unknown star patterns. Just as the Zeta ship pulled ahead of the other two, there was a bump, and the star patterns shifted. They were back at Orion's Belt. Cheers went up from everyone on both ships.
The Zeta bridge crew appeared on screen, smiling. "We wish for you Good Journeys, friends. One day, when you are able to travel a bit faster, we will show you the location of more of the Borders. It makes space travel much easier. Farewell, for now friends."
"Good-bye, and thank you."
The Zeta ship reversed course and disappeared.
"Amazing!" Capt. Gwendale exclaimed
Everyone was silent for a moment, then Capt. Picard said, "Mr. Warf, send a message to Starfleet. Let them know that we are back. Number One, you have the bridge. I must go prepare my report."
